In celebration of The Spirit of Speyside Festival 2024

About Foraging in the Flavor Forest: One of the team's favourites from the festival lineup, it garners its decadent display on the palate from ex-bourbon and PX sherry casks. The sherry leads the way with pronounced richness that balances beautifully with the muscular character of the distillate. This is rich, raucous and highly rewarding malt!

Tasting Panel Note: We walked through the deep, dark forest, stepping over moss-covered tree roots and troupes of wood mushrooms. As the wind whispered through the dense evergreens, the aroma of steamed raisin pudding with a tawny port wine sauce emerged. We followed our noses and found a little gingerbread house with vanilla-based frosting, supported by tonka beans, cinnamon sticks and garibaldi biscuits. When we added a couple of drops of water the scent of chocolate-coated dark red cherries flirting with turrón ice cream and PX raisins dominated, while on the palate we enjoyed blueberries freshly picked from the woodland.

Members Note: I was expecting more of a "sherry bomb," and there is definitely sherry in it, but it is dry sherry, more like a tawny port maybe than the sweeter sherry that I associate with PX casks. It really is a distinctive bottle that is not like most others in the DRDF profile….I read the tasting notes (which I had forgotten) after tasting it myself and although I often don't get quite the same flavors as the tasters, I think they are dead on for this one. Great bottle. Glad I bought two!
