Cask No. 71.71
Hugging a hedgerow
Speyside, Lossie
We found ourselves amongst the undergrowth and the the damp leaves of a forest floor as the trees made the air abundant with fresh wood and bark. The sweet smell of flowering gorse concealed spiky thorns that prickled the tongue like scotch bonnet chillies. Then the bitter sweetness of marmalade shone through to be joined by milk chocolate and a firmly woody finish. A heavy dash of water brought us back to the forest floor with tree stumps, pine needles and bracken. Now the fruit emerged with overripe apples and bananas but also blackberry bushes rich in juicy berries. Prickly spice had now mellowed into warming nutmeg and ginger and a delicious waxy textures stayed with us long into the finish.
