Picnic in the meadow

A high rye bourbon not only gives you a nuanced experience served neat but will elevate your bourbon-based cocktail in a serious way. Here we have a well-known distillery in Indiana that custom distills for several brands. We got the chance to pillage their warehouses and found a cache of superior casks a few years back…. This is one of those casks! Earthy, spicy and straight up delicious.

Tasting Panel Notes
A dry herbal aroma surprised us at first, caraway, cumin and coriander before sweet hay, floral honey, lavender and dark chocolate took centre stage. On the palate neat a slice of classic Pumpernickel bread spread with sweet butter and a fruity spicy mango chutney naan bread. Water added a steaming hot spicy black bean soup with buttered sour dough toast on the nose while the taste had an engaging sweet, spicy and herbal mix with a creamed corn finish. The mash bill for this bourbon consists of 60% corn, 36% rye and 4% malted barley, matured in a #4 char new oak barrel with #2 char heads.
