From our 40th Anniversary Collection

Like many highways converging at a single place, ripe apples, pears, sweet sandalwood and fragrant pipe tobacco gathered at the intersection of perception. As minty dark chocolate and ginger nut biscuits merged with cherry fondant and exotic fruits, our journey so far had become clear. With a customary drop of water we embarked on a voyage into camphor and rum cream cakes with a few salt crystals on top. Flakes of toasted coconut now stuck to sticky caramel biscuits before arriving at what seemed like a destination of peach ice cream on stewed apple tart. However, it was only just the beginning. After spending 35 years in an ex-bourbon barrel this was transferred to a Spanish oak sherry hogshead for the remainder of its maturation.

About Cask No. 12.79:

We have been waiting four decades for Cask No. 12.79 On the Road Again! The Society’s 40th Anniversary celebration reaches unparalleled heights today with our oldest release of the last decade. Distilled in 1983 - the very same year the Society was created and gave impetus to the single cask movement, arguably the most important revolution of the Scotch whisky industry in the past century - this whisky spent 35 years in ex-bourbon wood and 5 years in a refill sherry hogshead for a truly unforgettable tasting experience..

About The Vaults Collection:

The Vaults Collection is a selection of the finest and rarest single cask, single malt whisky, set aside from The Scotch Malt Whisky Society’s most remarkable stocks over the years. They have been released from the depths of our treasure trove of casks, after decades of slow maturation and careful nurturing. The Vaults Collection represents the whisky lover’s dream: chance to journey back into whisky history, including the opportunity to experience styles or distilleries that no longer exist, like Cask 24.170 Sensuous Opulence. The Collection takes its name from the Society’s historical home at The Vaults in Leith, Scotland’s oldest commercial building in continuous use whose connection with the drinks world dates back to the 12th century. Each bottle has a specially designed label and is offered in a beautiful wooden box.
