At The Scotch Malt Whisky Society, we are on a passionate pursuit of the world’s most unique casks of whisky. Oftentimes we discover true Hidden Gems amongst our whiskies. Here are three 'below the radar' casks chosen by Scott!

Coming out of the starting blocks is this 9-year-old Speyside in our 'Spicy & Sweet' profile. Cask No. 48.143 Worm silk has a full nose that hits your senses with lemon wafers, floral notes, and sawdust. Neat this surprises the taste buds with a slight tobacco, fruits, toffee and pepper oak spice. A beautiful palate for a 9 year ex bourbon barrel cask. Add water and cantaloupe with pepper, slight wood char, and bubble gum are exposed. Worm silk comes off as an older whisky for a great price that you don’t want to pass up.

Cask No. 55.75 Exotic opulence is a true example of our 'Juicy, Oak & Vanilla' flavor profile.  This 16-year-old Speysider had a double maturation from a bourbon hogshead to a heavy toast medium char hogshead.  The nose is a nutty, dark fruit, dusty oak explosion. The palate is bursting with birthday cake served on a freshly waxed oak serving board, berries, leather, stewed fruits, and tropical notes. Dilution brings berries, more oak and a chocolate cake that replaces the birthday cake. A nicely balanced scotch with classic old whisky character.

The 'Spicy & Dry' profile is growing in popularity and Cask No. 59.69 Exotic tantalisation does not disappoint. After first maturation in a bourbon hogshead, the whisky was transferred to a 2nd fill ex-red wine barrique. The nose transports you to a spa with herbal/floral aromas, aromatic orange chocolate and a sweet oak. First sip hits with a spicy oak, sweet toasted honey, and almonds. A round of water brings on the sweetness, papaya, tropical fruits, cinnamon and white pepper. A gorgeous sweet, dry, spicy 13 year old scotch that leaves an impression you won’t forget!
