A rather fragrant aroma of mint, damsons, dried herbs, aged Benedictine, leather-bound books and jasmine tea greeted the panel. We also found something of a white wine spritzer effervescence about it alongside some spicy aged Gewurtztraminer. With water we noted spiced baked apples, raisins in cognac, orange bitters, mint jelly, mustard seeds and fresh Canteloupe melon. The palate displayed a fruity intensity at first followed by quinine, wet leaf mulch, elegant rancio, tiger balm and old yellow Chartreuse. Reduction uncovered moist tobacco, dunnage must, vanilla custard, wood resins and herbs de Provence.
