With the screech of hot rubber we rocketed off leaving behind the strong fumes of lapsang souchong tea. Down the first straight, flying past the grandstand of rich fruit cake with spicy suet, roasted orange skin, hazelnuts and sultanas soaked in amontillado sherry. Then into the strawberry jam s-bends, the big raspberry smoothie right-hander and the hazelnut hairpin. Onto the carrot cake straight and whizzing past the dark chocolate crunchy bar barriers with the smell of burnt treacle, ginger and concentrated brown sugar in the air. Through the final cream sherry chicane then across the line, the smell of hot Scalextric car thick in the air.
