Lucky lemon lickers

Speyside, Lossie

In the midday shade of the lemon tree we sat enjoying the aromas from the nearby flowering laurel hedge and honeysuckle. Spread out before us was our afternoon tea of Chinese lemon chicken, quince jelly on spicy rye bread and baked apple tart with plenty of nutmeg and ginger. “Who’s for lemon tea or apple wine”, one panellist asked. “They will go lovely with the lemon and lime sorbet and lemon cheesecake”, which had a particularly sticky glaze I must say. The sorbet did come with caramel wafers, however the hazelnut spread with sour cherries and crème brulee were also very tempting indeed.

Drinking tip: A pleasing aperitif to take time over and savour along with a lazy afternoon lunch.
