Cask No. 26.211

Those Were the Days

Highland, Northern

The wonderful gentle aroma reminded us of happy childhood summers, pitching a small canvas tent on the beach and spending carefree time outdoors. The taste reflected those serene chilled-out moments with a wonderfully waxy mouthfeel, tropical fruit juice, maple syrup and poached pears in a rich cardamom chocolate sauce. A tiny drop of water, if you wish, and the gentle scent of apple blossom next to flaked almonds and rich tea biscuits emerged as we started to paint with soft pastel colours ‘plein air' style on the beach. On the palate came a tantalising deliciousness; a sweet oiliness combined with candied orange peel and rosewater – ambrosial nectar.

About Cask No. 26.211 Those Were the Days:

Cask 26.211 'Those were the days' hails from one of the most sought-after sites in the Highlands. Its precious liquid is typically gobbled up by blenders to impart luscious texture to highly regarded blends. Every so often, a few casks escape this fate and are given the time to properly age and develop remarkable complexity. After 30 years in a second-fill ex-bourbon barrel, Cask 26.211 offers itself as a hallmark example of the textural richness and depth of character achieved through extensive aging. This cask is a must-have for any connoisseur of exceptional single malt!

About The Vaults Collection:

The Vaults Collection is a selection of the finest and rarest single cask, single malt whisky, set aside from The Scotch Malt Whisky Society’s most remarkable stocks over the years. They have been released from the depths of our treasure trove of casks, after decades of slow maturation and careful nurturing. The Vaults Collection represents the whisky lover’s dream: chance to journey back into whisky history, including the opportunity to experience styles or distilleries that no longer exist. The Collection takes its name from the Society’s historical home at The Vaults in Leith, Scotland’s oldest commercial building in continuous use whose connection with the drinks world dates back to the 12th century. Each bottle has a specially designed label and is offered in a beautiful wooden box.
