With Earth Day (April 22^nd) coming up, let’s think globally and dram locally! Today, we present three perfectly peated malts that were created beyond the borders of Scotland. Distillery 137 has been producing English malt for fifteen years and has quickly created a cult-like following, especially for peated malts. Cask No. 137.13 Super smoky will impress peat lovers with a beautifully textured and integrated expression of rich smoke and creamy tropical fruits. Cask No. 151.3 Skinny dipping in the Baltic Sea hails from Sweden’s very first malt whisky distillery. If 137.13 flashes more mainland peat character, this one surely is going for the Islay style. Swedish peat creates a profile brimming with coal smoke, smoked fish and medicinal notes that have been integrating for twelve years in ex-bourbon wood. It’s all beach bonfire and smoked meats with this gorgeous dram. Let’s head to the far east for Cask No. 138.11 Crouching in a peat bog and a brilliant finale to our peated adventure. The tropical environment of Taiwan creates whiskies of intensity and integration that any peat lover is bound to fall in love with. This particular dram draws on the meaty richness of mainland peat and the medicinal salinity of island peat. These different worlds of flavour collide for a bold and beautifully smoky sensory experience!
