The nose portrayed the spirit of exuberance that defied this whisky's age and delivered to us a bountiful supply of apples, pears, gooseberries and pencil shavings. Vanilla pods and caramel wafers combined with sugar cane to bring a sweetness that followed onto a sticky and buttery palate. Then raisins soaked in rum poured over us like a soothing ointment with waves of walnut oil, melted butter and teasing spice. With water we basked in the tropics amidst bananas, guava, pineapples and passionfruit whilst sipping fragrant rum agricole. With patience the flavours opened fully to reveal cinnamon and nutmeg grated over white chocolate and custard whilst sweet wood combined with icing sugar on a lengthy and tranquil finish.
