A vibrant ray of sunshine entered the room and illuminated the small glass of gold in front of us like an ancient gilded temple. We bathed in a warm and comforting feeling like being wrapped in a toffee popcorn blanket. A tiny puff of white pepper and dusty sawdust awakened our senses to juicy baked apples bestrewed with cinnamon and nutmeg spice. We indulged in banana sweets and rhubarb crumble literally swimming in creamy custard. The flavours bounced between dusty new wood and juicy fruit like a crab apple in a sandalwood pinball machine. Butter melted over corn on the cob and down onto the expansive finish that combined Chinese 5 spice with beautifully integrated tannins and the golden glow of satisfaction.
