Notes
About A welcome distraction: A high rye bourbon performs well on its own and in cocktails as well. This one brought our Tasting Panel down a Nordic rabbit hole that sounds delicious. Look for big spices, oak and lots of cinnamon-bun-esque confections along with the rum-leaning notes that seemed to inspire our Panel.
Tasting Panel Note: We were on cloud nine nosing this one neat as it reminded us of a Cloud Walker cocktail, mixing Finnish cloudberry liqueur with whisky, lime juice and lemonade. On the palate we moved from Finland to Barbados as we enjoyed a traditional planter’s drink called corn ‘n’ oil, mixing rum, Falernum and Angostura Bitter before floating dark blackstrap rum on top. Following reduction, butter pecan Danish as well as rum and raisin fudge while to taste back to the cocktails, this time a Blueberry Miami Vice. The mash bill for this bourbon consists of 75% corn, 21% rye and 4% malted barley, matured in a #4 char new oak barrel with #2 char heads.
