Scented candles on a fruit cake
Speyside, Spey
A sumptuous assortment of perfumed blossom and sweet fruits burst into the air. Banana, pineapple and mango mingled with nasturtium and apple blossom before developing a waxy texture like magnolia-scented candles. Nutmeg, ginger and cinnamon were abundant, sprinkled over baked apple pie with a dusting of icing sugar. Then boozy concoctions as rum punch, rye whisky and mead made from clover honey entered the fray. Water released deeper notes of tobacco and soft leather with lavender and pear flan. The finish was reminiscent of dates, figs and crystalised ginger served on an oak chopping board.
