About Thunder from down under: This is how you say, “G’day”! A cask of D’Arenberg Australian Shiraz was used to age this whisky for 5 years and the results are positively decadent. Red fruit liqueurs, exotic spices and dried fruits are all part of this funky and unforgettable dram!

Tasting Panel Note: This was seven years in ex-bourbon wood, then further matured in a first fill d’Arenberg shiraz barrique. The colour possibly influenced our ruminations. The nose suggested pink blancmange and marshmallows, black cherries, dried cranberries and French raspberry liqueur. On the palate we found malt loaf and demerara sweetness, red grape, Danish cherry liqueur, pop tarts and wine-stained oak, before finishing with tobacco and Sichuan sauce. The reduced nose combined bramble jelly and sweet vermouth with fig rolls, burnt raisins and ‘drinking ginger beer while heading a leather football’. The palate now offered blackcurrant jam and damson crumble, tarte tatin, pomegranate seeds and peshwari naan. Funky and interesting.
