Smoky strawberry flavoured foam sweets in the form of shrimps, banana pancakes cooked over a beachside bonfire and clove-studded oranges doused in brandy while to taste so sweet, so smoky and so hot. It felt like “flames and glowing embers in a campfire” or an array of “firecracker sushi rolls” – using chilli sauce and shichimi togarashi – certainly an experience! Water added the aroma of brackish water, crispy bacon frazzles and honey-cured ham, while on the palate we were back in Japan with smoky, spicy octopus sushi wrapped in edible seaweed called nori and tiger prawns in soy, sake and honey.
