The nose was deep and dark, but pleasantly attractive – we found dates, Demerara, mocha, rum truffles and candy floss; a lady’s wooden dressing table and a French polisher’s tool-bag. The neat palate was very sweet – treacle toffee, rum cake, Dr Peppers, and Calypsocoffee, but with hints of perfume and Benylin linctus offering intrigue and interest. The reduced nose suggested cinder toffee, fly cemeteries (fruit slice) and sherry trifle with lady finger biscuits in the bottom. The palate had moist ginger cake and sugary espresso dregs, with black tea, dry wood and gentle spices giving a satisfying shimmer to the finish.
