Notes

The nose was a lively evocation of tar barrels, engine oil, race track tyre marks, a Guy Fawkes bonfire, over-toasted nuts and meat loaf (not the bat out of hell one). The palate conveyed charred wood, peat embers and caramelised brown sugar, with an ironic pairing of strong menthol lozenges and "chewing on a pirate’s wooden leg" (salty, with tarred leather). The reduced nose combined garden bonfires and cheroots in an ashtray with crème brûlée and well-done currant buns. The palate became an easy-drinking balance of sweetness and smoke, with hints of cranberry sauce on pork pies and firemen’s gloves.
