A wave of spice erupted from the glass and drove a thick cloud of nutmeg, cinnamon and ginger over beeswax polished furniture, linseed oil and putty. Cherry travel sweets, grapefruit and blueberry jam then merged with oily Brazil nuts, walnuts and bergamot. The palate fell into darkness as bitter chocolate swarmed around espresso coffee and fresh rhubarb on a pine forest floor. Water accentuated the weight of chocolate gateau but now with figs, dates and sticky molasses. Herbal notes combined with cranberry gravy and dried apricots before a final surge delivered bruised apples, lime chocolate and tea tree oil. After spending 26 years in an ex-bourbon hogshead this was transferred to a first fill Spanish oak Pedro Ximinez cask for the remainder of its maturation.
