Special release for The Gathering at the Vaults 2019, celebrating the excellence of Society's whisky and unity among members in the world. This collector's edition item will enhance any private whisky collection.
The nose suggested syrup, cinder toffee and golden meringue sweetness, but majored on Golden Virginia tobacco, wooden furniture, new carpets and eucalyptus. The sweetness on the palate was Liquorice Allsorts, humbugs and banana split – also some floral and herbal freshness, with chilli and ginger heat later. Water added petits fours, honey and Rich Tea biscuits to the nose, plus ebony pipe stems, prunes, leather and charcoal. The palate sweetened somewhat – ice-cream, glacé cherries and marzipan; the finish teased us with black bun, cinnamon toast, clove and anise. After 27 years in ex-bourbon wood we transferred this into a heavy-toast, medium-char hogshead.
