Cask No. 35.245

A conversation piece

Speyside, Lossie

13 years in a chenin blanc barrique and 24 months in a designer barrel has given this an amazing auburn-to-amber colour. The nose is certainly unusual – ginger beer, curiosity cola, rose hips, pomegranate molasses, cherry brandy and polished leather. The palate shows powerful wood impact – tongue-tingling and mouth-drying, with damson, bramble and redcurrant, dark chocolate, tree bark and liquorice root. With water, the nose finds cedarwood, blackcurrant leaf, rooibos tea and rum and coke. The palate – dry, intense, bitter and delicious – orange boxes, mandarins in syrup, marrons glacés sprinkled with ginger, wine gums, red laces and sugar-coated fennel seeds.
