Notes

About Peat (feat. oak) single cask: Cask No. 162.1 ‘Peat (feat. oak) single cask’ is a featured character in the epic action film ‘Smoke on the Horizon’. We’re so excited to share the first ever cask from Distillery 162..and what better time to release it than Festival season!  This peated island malt was matured in a Chinkapin oak barrel, which has created a profile unlike anything we’ve seen.

Tasting Panel Note: The neat nose on this one immediately gave away a richly wood-influenced profile. Freshly smoked barley, beach bonfire smoke and Brunswick ham were all noted, along with smoked and peppered mackerel, wood char and smoked apple crisps. With reduction we detected a wee flash of carbolic acidity, then big ashy peat with impressions of lemons charring on a barbecue, damp straw bales in a shed, Arbroath smokie and wet kelp. The neat palate was clean and punchy with a pronounced smokiness, before sharper and fruitier components such as blood orange studded with clove, ginger, cinnamon and further notes of ham, seaweed and some rye bread spiciness. Water brought a lovely richness of smoked malt loaf, a fizz of dandelion and burdock, and more beach bonfire and smoky barbecue vibes that lingered into the aftertaste.
