Since 2019, The Tasting Panel Experience has invited American members to get involved in the critical process of cask selection whilst having a lot of fun in the learning process. This year, the Society’s original Tasting Panel Chairman Charlie MacLean was our special guest, empowering US members to choose their own US exclusive casks through a professional tasting identical to the original Tasting Panel in Scotland.
Cask No. 58.57 Exceeds Expectations was matured for 11 years in a refill ex-bourbon cask and 4 years in a 1st fill American oak PX cask. Here are just some of the aromas and flavours our members picked up on this gorgeous single malt. The neat nose came out swinging with raisins, brown sugar, toffee and caramel macchiato. On the neat palate, black cherry soda, banana walnut bread, molasses and leather came through. After the addition of water, the diluted nose displayed beach plums, raisins, chocolate, orange and oil-based paints. The diluted palate boasted chocolate-covered cherries, cocoa powder, almonds, strawberries with chocolate and sauteed mushrooms. This just may be the perfect dram for your holiday sipping!
