The nose combined buttered popcorn, croissants and brazil nuts with fresh mackerel, applewood-smoked bacon and crème brûlée dusted with cinnamon and coal ash. The palate was equally sweet, with hazelnut praline, strawberry jam and barbecue sauce mixing with smoked kippers, crab meat and pencil shavings. With water came a full fishing harbour of mussels, lobsters and seaweed smoke with burning herbs and heather, before black cherries and marzipan merged with chimney soot. Still sweet, flavours now embraced icing sugar, caramel wafers and burnt marshmallows beside singed pastries, buttered crusty bread and salmon-flavoured candy floss.
