At The Scotch Malt Whisky Society, we take great pride in selecting, bottling and enjoying the world’s finest casks of whisky. Each week, our expert Tasting Panel gathers at The Vaults, our spiritual home in Scotland, to taste, score and vote on which casks are deemed worthy for our members. This unique and rigorous process of taste-testing every cask and choosing only the best ensures that our members enjoy the highest quality whisky available today.
For many Society members, the dream of one day sitting on the Tasting Panel and participating in the cask selection process is a very real one. To help turn that dream into a reality, we decided to start something special. In 2019 we launched The Tasting Panel Experience, a series of unforgettable tasting events across the USA that allowed Society members to taste, score and select our very own USA Exclusive casks just like our team in Scotland!
This year we were faced with a unique challenge in light of the current pandemic that has prevented us from gathering in person. Instead of cancelling the experience altogether, we’ve decided to open up the opportunity for all Society members in the USA to help us choose our next US Exclusive casks!
On Thursday, October 15, we held a very special virtual gathering and presentation with Charlie Maclean, world-renowned whisky writer and Chair of our Tasting Panel. Alongside our team, Charlie introduced a selection of casks that are currently maturing in our warehouse in Scotland. Together we will be offered an-in depth tasting and analysis of each unique whisky. Next week, we will be opening the polls, inviting you to vote on which casks you would like to see bottled and released here in the USA!
